Some of you might have seen on Twitter that I recently booked myself a plane ticket to the USA. I’m off to NYC in May, and fly back from LA in July. I will be spending a month or so in Minneapolis, at the Minnesota Centre for Book Arts, as well as visiting various book arts centres and letterpress studios along the way.

I will be blogging from my new Tumblr Simon Goes, which also includes a map of my itinerary. I’m always on the look-out for places to visit and othersuch recommendations, so let me know!

The Secret Library of Solihull

The past month I’ve been working with the Solihull Art Gallery in the West Midlands on their forthcoming exhibition of contemporary artists’ books, The Secret Library of Solihull, which runs from 8 March to 8 May 2010.

The exhibition comprises works loaned from the Book Arts Collections at the Centre for Fine Print Research (CFPR) at University of the West of England, Bristol, as well as some selected works by local, Midlands-based book artists.

As part of the exhibition there is also an artists’ book fair that is going to be held at the Gallery on 20 March with local and national book artists, printmakers, illustrators, designers and artists all showcasing their works. We’ve had a good set of applications so far – a really varied mix of disciplines and approaches to the book, plus an exciting ‘interactive’ exhibitor – watch this space!

I am going to be running a artists’ book workshop in bookbinding on 10 and 11 April so have been busy prepping materials and binding structures – exciting stuff!

So – if you’re in the area, or are passing through – be sure to pay a visit!

Alternative Press Fair 2010
Saturday 13th February
12pm — midnight

The Alternative Press is celebrating its first birthday with a small press fair to be held at St Aloysius Social Club near Euston Station. The fair will bring together the worlds of comics, zines, book arts and printmaking with a wide range of exhibitors and participants.

The event starts at 12pm with the fair running until 7pm, after that the birthday bonanza continues until late with music and spoken word. More to be confirmed.

Hibernation

Apologies for the lack of posts lately, Yuletide has been keeping me busy and the combination of sub-zero temperatures and winter frugality have meant I’ve not much to be reporting on, except maybe the following highlights.

Picked up a bargain:

Needs a bit of wire brushing and grease, but at under £30 I wasn’t complaining.

Came across an unloved Albion awaiting a new home:

(I fear its selling price would be much more than my budget)

And went on a crisp winter walk…
